STATE OF EMERGENCY DECLARED ON NIGERIA SPORTS.

The Nigeria Sports Minister Solomon Dalung, has declared a state of emergency in the country’s sports industry. This he said is to awaken the comatose state of our sports. He want stakeholders and Nigerians to critically look at the sector with a view to repositioning it to the level Nigeria sports were 20 years ago when the likes of Mary Onyeali, Innocent Egbunike etc where making Nigeria proud.
Dalung called on all stakeholder, sports loving Nigerians to come together in lifting the sports industry out of it's present poor state.

Nigeria sports minister said this as he was receiving report of the Godwin Kienka-led National Reform Committee on Sports in the federal capital Abuja, Dalung posited that for the report to be fully implemented, all hands must be on deck in making the dream a reality.

Dalung said, “Part of the reasons we had to declare a state of emergency in sports is to take steps to regain public confidence, which we have lost and this will take us to looking into what we have done in the past and where we didn’t do it well.

“We will also ensure that this report is made public and every stage of implementation is advertised and brought to the knowledge of Nigerians. This will help rekindle public confidence and assure investors that we will no longer do things the way we used to.”

On the rumoured mismanagement of the ministry’s funds, the sport's minister said, “These are issues that have to do with law and investigation because you must have facts to make allegations of mismanagement of funds in the ministry. This should be a welcomed by all and asunder considering the poor performance of Dream Team Nigeria at the just concluded 2016 RIO-OLYMPIC in Brazil, where Nigeria came home with only Bronze medal in football. We read how atheletes sponsored their training abroad, while some trained in a dilapidated infrastructure. The decay is much that Nigeria rating in football is nothing to write home about. Is not need also that our footballers were left stranded in the USA and finally got to Brazil few hours to their first group match in Rio. A thorough sanitation is what we need. Let's make use of sports technocrats rather than playing politics with Nigeria sports. If anything could make us United is Sports, therefore let's build it back.
