The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called for the immediate release of 13 students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) being held in Kirikiri Maximum Prison, Lagos. NANS’ President, Mr Chinonso Obasi,  said the union would protest at Kirikiri Prison if the 13 students were not freed within 24 hours. A Special Offences Mobile Court had on April 1 remanded the 13 UNILAG students in Kirikiri Prisons, pending their bail application. They were accused of engaging in unlawful invasion of Television Continental in Lagos. The students were arraigned on a two-count charge of unlawful invasion and disruption of activities and have all pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge. The accused students are Femi Adeyeye, Toni Aina, Kodri Yaya, Asimi Oladime, Ismahim Olalekan, Segun Okesola, Abdulazeez Soneye, Idris Abogunloko, and Muyiwa Olaniyi. News from the ancient city of Ile Ife in Osun State has alleged that a policeman shot dead one Mr Bashiru Ayedun while leading a protest against the arrest of his colleague who made a whopping N8 Million from scamming a client. It was gathered that the boys where celebrating the booty with the scammer when suddenly police appeared from nowhere to arrest them. From the information gathered from an eyewitness who does not want to be quoted, said the police have taken part of the loot and still wanted to arrest the scammer. The police were offered N100,000 but they rejected it on the ground that it was small considering that the booty was N8 Million.

Justice Abdulaziz Anka, of the Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday lifted the order barring a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Mike Ozekhome, from accessing his Guaranty Trust Bank account. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had claimed that the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, had paid a legal fee of N75m into. EFCC had in February 2017, obtained an interim order barring the Senior Advocate from accessing the N75m in the account, saying it was part of alleged corrupt proceeds. The anti-graft agency had alleged that the N75m which Fayose paid to Ozekhome was part of the N2.26bn arms procurement funds, which a former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.), allegedly looted. Against this backdrop, Justice Anka had on February 7 frozen Ozekhome’s account for 120 days.
