Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, His Grace Most Rev. Dr. Alfred Adewale Martins, has said that Nigerians stand to gain more living together hence they must shun every act capable of further polarising the country. The Prelate, while expressing deep concern over the discordant tunes and call for disintegration being championed by some youths across the country, warned of the consequences of another civil war.

HOTELIER MUDER FIVE HELD IN OGUN STATE.

Five persons have been arrested by the police in Ogun State over the murder of a hotelier, Moses Akanni Famuyiwa. Famuyiwa, who was the Director of Mafland hotel, located in Arigbajo area in Ifo Local Government Area of the state, was reported to have been attacked by some hoodlums at the residence of one of his wives in the town on June 14. The suspects arrested in connection with the murder, according to a release by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Ogun State, Oyeyemi Abimbola, were Dare Abiodun, 19, Femi Ayinla, 17, Abduliamin Akinlotan, 18, Jamiu Akeweje, 19 and Gbenga Ojo, 20. Oyeyemi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, explained the hoodlums numbering about eight, had broken into the residence at about 5a.m on that fateful day and held everybody hostage.

BUHARI HAS NOT REMOVED CHRISTIAN RELIGIOUS STUDIES FROM SECONDARY SCHOOL CURRICULUM.

  Discussions about the “removal” of Christian Religious Studies (CRS) from Nigeria’s secondary school curriculum have been ongoing since June 14 when a delegation of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) paid a courtesy call on Acting President Yemi Osinbajo at the State House. During the visit, Samson Ayokunle, the CAN president, pointed out that whereas the new curriculum stipulates that CRS – also referred to as Christian Religious Knowledge (CRK) – will no longer exist as a subject on its own, Islamic/Arabic Studies and French have been introduced. Ayokunle told Osinbajo that the curriculum had earlier been dropped by the ministry of education after CAN raised objections. He however expressed surprise that the same curriculum had resurfaced. “This curriculum is the brain-child of Nigerian Educational Research Council, an agency of the Federal Ministry of Education. N578 MILLION APPROVED BY KANO STATE GOVERNMENT FOR TEACHERS AND NON TEACHING PERSONNEL.

The Kano State Government said it had approved N578 million for the payment of 44, 654 primary school teachers and other non-teaching personnel ‎  under the state’s Universal Basic Education Board.   ‎ The Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, made this known on Tuesday in a statement by the Press Secretary to the state Governor,   ‎   Malam Ameen Yassar ‎ . He said the amount would cater for those who had been notionally promoted in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.   ‎‎‎ ‎ He stated that the State Executive council, under the chairmanship of the Deputy Governor, Prof. Hafiz Abubakar, approved the payment, which takes effect from June 2017, following negotiations with representatives of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT). “After series of deliberations between the government and the unions, especially in view of the financial situation, it was unanimously agreed that the workers would forfeit their arrears.
