FOR PULLING OUT BABY"S HAND DURING DELIVERY, LAGOS STATE GOVT. SEALS MATERNITY.
The
Lagos State Government has sealed off the facility of an auxiliary nurse,
identified as OYEKANMI in the Odogunyan area of Ikorodu in Lagos State.
In
an attempt to deliver a pregnant woman called Adeola of her baby after
complication has occurred, Oyekanmi tried forcing the baby out of the womb,
thereby leading to pulling out the baby’s hand.
It
was tragic as the said baby was later delivered dead in General Hospital
Ikorodu.
This horrific incident
drew the attention of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Primary Health Care, Dr Olufemi Onanuga who promptly sealed off and closed Oyekanmi Maternity
Centre. Lagos State Ministry of Health Spokesperson Adeola Salako while
commenting on the incident, told reporters that the Government is looking into
the case.
Advice was giving to all
pregnant women in the state to shun patronizing quacks for their antenatal as
doing so could lead to infant and maternal deaths just as witnessed in Ikorodu.
Government officials
visited the General Hospital where they confirmed the incident before visiting Oyekanmi
Maternity Center, which was described as a room apartment in Odogunyan area.
The sealing off was carried out by the officials of the Health Facility
Accreditation And Monitory Agency.
Like any other criminal cases,
the incident is now handed over to the Police Criminal Department by the Lagos
State Government.
