The Guild of Professional Bloggers in Nigeria (GPBN) wishes Nigerians, home and abroad, a pleasant and rewarding New Year. The outgone year (2017) has been quite eventful. Nigeria witnessed a handful of positive developments; but it has mostly been through several challenges and tough times, all of which Nigerians across all religious, ethnic and social divides have lived through and survived. As the umbrella body of several responsible, ethically-guided blogging professionals in Nigeria, we wish to salute the resilience and courage displayed by Nigerians in the face of these national upheavals; we commend the collective resolve by everyone to stand and fight together to fight corruption in all aspects of our lives and by so doing helping to build a stronger nation we can all be proud of. ASLAT: The New Face Of Lagos Artisan And Technicians

Artisans and Technicians have launched a new body in Lagos on Tuesday. During his welcoming address at the event the President EXCO ASLAT, Engineer Lawrence Ajayi said the main purpose of the event is to officially introduce to the world Association of Lagos Artisan and Technicians (ASLAT). According to him; Association of Lagos Artisan and Technicians (ASLAT) is intermarriage and interbreeding of different artisans/technicians bodies and associations in Lagos State. With nine pioneer association members, ASLAT sought for registration with Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in August 2016 and was duly registered and awarded certificate of registration as corporate entity in Nigeria in October 2017 and currently have eleven (11) members. Allegations Against SARS: NHRC Commences Public Hearing.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has commenced public hearing into cases of alleged human right violations against the Nigerian Police Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in the FCT. The Acting Executive Secretary of the Commission Mrs Oti Ovrawah revealed that the idea of the public hearing was conceived from numerous complaints received by the Commission on the activities of the Police (SARS). She said the complaints bothered basically on human rights violations like torture, threat to life, access to justice, inhuman and degrading treatment among other things. Mrs ovrawah emphasized that in fulfilling its statutory mandate of promotion, protection and enforcement of human rights in Nigeria, and in line with its standing order and rules of procedure, holding a public hearing on such complaints became necessary in order to adequately address the human rights concerns. Professor Sheriff Folarin from the Covenant University, Ota has endorsed the first public collection of poems by Bola Olusanya which he titled ‘Nocturnal Notes’. Prof Folarin’s endorsement came via his review of the book during the week and has thus, suggested that the literary work should be purchased by all discerning minds. The author, Bola Olusanya has spent the last 20 years in the financial services sector, mostly managing investments for endowments, foundations and pension plans. ‘Nocturnal Notes’ is his first published collection of poems, written between 1993 and 1996 during his college years at the University of Ibadan (UI), Nigeria. He made the call at the Senate Roundtable on drug abuse held in Kano on Monday. The event is organised by the Senate in order to address drug abuse epidemic in the country. He said the call was necessary in order to ensure that anybody was not allowed to hold political office and traditional leadership positions. “I am ready to submit myself for the drug test. “I suggest that ministers, governors and traditional rulers should go for drug test because when youths understand that they cannot be governors, ministers or senators if they are drug addicts, they will be into their senses. “The country is facing a great danger because the fight against drug abuse has to be taken seriously if we are to succeed,’’ he said. CKN Foundation Empowers 15 Widows In Lagos (See Pictures) The third edition of the CKN FOUNDATION Widows Empowerment Programme was held in Lagos on Friday Speaking at the occasion, the founder of the Non Governmental Organization, Mr Chris Kehinde Nwandu, said the foundation was set up to assist indigent widows meet some of their basic needs. He also thanked all those far and wide that contributed the cash towards making the event a reality. He encouraged them to see their plights as an act of God, urging them to make the best out of the situation they found themselves since it's God that gives and takes. Also speaking at the event, a Philanthropist Chief Vincent Okeke asked the recipient to make judicious use of the stipends given them especially during this Yuletide season.
