Sunset at Dawn for Pericomo By Uche Ohia The sun set at dawn today, Thursday, February 16, 2017 for the Arondizuogu born traditional music prodigy, Damian Azubuike Nwankwo Okoye also known as “Ichie Mezuo” or “Alusi Makaja” but more widely known to Igbo traditional music fans across Nigeria and the masquerade loving Igbo people of South East Nigeria at home and in Diaspora as “Pericomo”. As the news that the celebrated minstrel had joined his ancestors broke on the internet and spread around, a palpable gloom and sadness spread with it. Such was the popularity of the man that even those that did not know him but only heard his music were saddened to learn about his demise.   Black Thursday as Arondizuogu and the entire Igbo land received with shock the passing away of an illustrious son Ichie Mazi Okoye Nwankwo alias PERICOMA. Being a debt owed by every living soul, Pericoma of Arondizuogu bows out to join the ancestors early morning of yesterday in a private hospital in the eastern part of Nigeria. Pericoma was a LEGEND, AN ENIGMA whose Traditional Cultural music spans for many years. His music will live forever in the memories of all sons and daughters of Arondizuogu and the entire Igbo land as well as the world. The life of this cultural music icon, through his philosophical teaching will not be forgotten so soon in the history of umu Arondizuogu and the world. His death signifies that Arondizuogu has lost part of her name as his name is synonymous to Pericoma. Lycée Français Louis Pasteur, a premium French school in Victoria Island Lagos which belongs to the worldwide network of schools operating under the French Agency for Teaching Abroad (AEFE) and managed by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has concluded plans to hold an information session with parents of primary schools to showcase the French primary school system with a view to giving elaborate explanation to the school’s French curriculum, making comparison with other international curricula, and highlighting the school’s bilingual teaching. Holding on Saturday 4 February 2017 at the school premises, the school Principal, Mr. Alain Berna, said the session is designed to give parents insights into how the French curriculum and education system works.

    The Federal Road Safety Celebrity Special Marshals held its National patrol in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital on Saturday 11 th  February 2017. Before then the team had visited the Government House, Abeokuta where they were received in audience by the Deputy Governor. In her remark, the Deputy Governor thanked the team for choosing Ogun State as its first State for the national patrol outside Lagos and Abuja . She expressed her government’s resolve to assist the FRSC just as it has always done in curbing road crashes in the State. The Sector Commander of FRSC Ogun State ,Commander Oladele,expressed his delight on the presence of the Celerity Marshals in the State.
